Who are you?

Who am I? Well, that’s a very good question and I still don’t have all the answers to it. But I guess that’s not what you came looking for when you clicked on the link to this page – at least I hope that you came here find out who the guy writing the articles in this blog is. If that’s the case, I think you won’t be disapppointed :) .
As you may have already seen, my name is Holger Rabbach. If that sounds foreign to you, I can assure you that it is, unless you happen to be from Germany. That’s where I was born and that’s where I live now and have always lived except for two years spent in England. I am currently 33 years old, engaged to a lovely young lady and living in a nice house with a very nice garden I make way too little use of.
A very important thing – and again, you might have guessed that from some of the contents on this website – is that I am a Christian and have been since 1994, when I decided that all the things I had learned about Jesus Christ actually made sense for my personal life, a decision I haven’t regretted for a single minute. After school, I studied law for a couple of years, until I realized that wasn’t really a profession that I wanted to work in. A regional internet service provider offered me a job in support (that was back in 1999 at the peak of the dotcom boom) and I took it and then worked my way up to being one of the network engineers running the servers there. In 2001 I decided that God really wanted me to do something different, so I quit my job and in January 2002 started as a local system administrator for two London offices of Operation Mobilisation (OM), an international missionary organisation. I spent two years there, then moved back to Germany. I’m still with OM, now working from home as an IT analyst, Linux developer (we develop an inhouse Linux distribution for all our offices around the world), server operator and security consultant (none of these are official job titles, but you get the idea…). And I also do some freelance work in the areas of server operation, security consulting and antispam solutions.
As you can see, my job and my christian faith do combine quite nicely. Although I make a lot less money than other people with my qualification, I know I’m collecting treasures in heaven and that’s not such a bad thing, considering I won’t be able to take any of my worldly possessions with me when I get there :) .
In what little spare time I have, music is my greatest passion. Whenever I have the money, I buy christian CDs from a wide variety of artists and genres. Also, I lead the worship band and sing lead vocals in the bi-weekly evening service at my church.
That’s pretty much all I’m willing to say about myself for now – I’m sure if you visit this site regularly, you will be able to pick up a lot more about me, my likes and dislikes etc. from the articles I post. So do come back, I’m looking forward to your next visit.
